Staff reports
Weld County sheriff's deputies are searching for a South Dakota who left a traffic stop in Longmont last week.
The suspect is Dustin Daniel Staeffler, 40, of Rapid City. He has arrest warrants for first-degree burglary, assault, obstruction, intentional damage to property and traffic offenses. The U.S. Marshals Service issued a separate warrant for selling amphetamines.
Sheriff's office spokesman Joe Moylan deputies stopped a minivan near state Highway 119 and Turner Boulevard Jan. 5. The driver was Staeffler's wife, Brook Dawn Staeffler, 36, also of Rapid City. Authorities arrested her on a separate federal warrant. She's in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
"During the initial contact, a man (later identified as Dustin Staeffler) exited the vehicle and refused to identify himself as he left the scene," Moylan said. "Deputies and local law enforcement agencies searched the area but were unable to locate the wanted fugitive."
Dustin Staeffler is described as a male white with blond hair and blue eyes. He's 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds and was last seen wearing a black baseball hat with red lettering, blue jeans and a black Carhartt jacket.
