GREELEY -- A 52-year-old Weld County sheriff's deputy received a citation Wednesday morning for driving under the influence of a prescription drug and is on unpaid administrative leave.

The Colorado State Patrol stopped Doug Grein, whose patrol area covers Fort Lupton, in of the sheriff's department's training facility. Grein, who was about to start a day of training, was released to the custody of a responsible individual.

Authorities got a report of someone who was having trouble driving on U.S. Highway 85 south of Greeley. Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez said Grein was in his own vehicle at the time the trooper made the traffic stop. Grein has been with the sheriff's office for 21 years.

Grein lives in Brighton.
