Salutatorian eyes work, then college

Fort Lupton High School class of 2012 salutatorian Oscar Navarro likes to keep things in balance. He prefers numbers, but he’s no slacker with words either.
“I like math, that’s what I like to do,” Navarro said. “But I didn’t lose focus on the other subjects.”

Navarro’s focus resulted in an excellent 4.102 grade point average, something he managed to pull off with a surprisingly simple philosophy and a lot of hard work.
“The way I see it, you start with an A, keep it there,” Navarro explained. “Do your work.”
Holding off on applying for grants and scholarships, Navarro wants to experience the real world for a bit before college.
“I’ll probably work for a while, then I’ll go to Metro,” Navarro said. “To study engineering, mechanical or civil.”
He plans to work with his brother’s painting business and build up some funds for school.
“He started his own paint business,” Navarro explained. “He goes to Metro, to the school of business. Metro is close, in Denver, so not far away from family.”
Until then, his automotove hobbies will help keep him busy.
“I’m rebuilding a classic truck, a 1953 Chevy,” Navarro said.
He is also helping another friend restore a 1948 Chevy Suburban.
“The body is all done,” Navarro said. “That one is ready for paint.”
