FORT LUPTON – Fort Lupton’s Derek Salinas was named the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference’s Wrestler of the Year. He also earned a spot at the all-state games at Adams State College this spring.

Salinas finished third at 119 pounds at the state 4A wrestling tournament. He lost his first-round match, then won the rest of his matches in the consolation draw.
Salinas also was a first-team, all-EMAC pick this season. Jordan LaRoche and Timmy Ornelas earned similar awards. DJ Vurciaga was a second-team pick. Ben Medina, Brice Pralle, Eddie Finkbiner and Angelo Zito were honorable-mention choices. Zito also earned academic all-conference recognition.
