Fort Lupton’s Jacob Ornelas spent a few days competing in the National Wrestling Coaches Association/USA Wrestling National Scholastics Duals at Wabash College last week in Crawfordsville, Ind.
He split six matches and earned a forfeit win.
The event featured as many as 24 teams from across the United States. It’s open to wrestlers in ninth through 11th grades. Each competitor gets at least seven matches.
“Our goal ultimately is to have a dual tournament where each state brings the best underclassmen, and we can have a true underclassmen national championship,” said USA Wrestling’s assistant director of events John Cook.
