McCorkle weighing his baseball options

FORT LUPTON — Now that Fort Lupton’s Seth McCorkle has his high school diploma in hand, he gets to answer the popular refrain, “What are you going to do now?”

For starters, he landed a spot on the Garretson Bears baseball team, an 18-and-under Connie Mack team in Greeley. It’s a college developmental team, and the coach is Craig Mincic. The season begins May 31 and includes a road trip to Albuquerque right after the Fourth of July.
After that, it’ll be time to pick a college.
“I have two schools looking at me for baseball,” McCorkle said. “One is Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. The other is Bethany University in Lindsborg, Kan. (a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). When I go to school, I’m going to study criminal justice. After college, I’d like to get into crime scene investigations.”
McCorkle started his senior season for the Bluedevils with a no-hitter. He finished the regular season by pitching Fort Lupton to its sixth straight playoff appearance with a 17-1 thrashing of Skyview High School.
“I’m more nervous than excited for what’s next,” McCorkle said. “I’m excited because I get an education and play baseball. I’m nervous because I will be going to a new school and I don’t know anyone.”
McCorkle won two of his last four games a year ago, including the playoff-clinching win against Skyview. He doesn’t have to make a decision until July 22 because he’s still waiting on some other offers.
“I just want to thank all the people supported me throughout my high school years,” he said. “I’d like to thank my parents because I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for their help.”
