Joseph Schiefelbein, 69, of Brighton, passed away July 21, 2014, in Thornton. He was born June 23, 1945, in Brighton, to Peter and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Schiefelbein and graduated from Brighton High School in 1963.

     He was a lifetime resident of Brighton, who as a member of the Denver Meat Cutters Union, worked as a meat cutter for John’s Meats for 45 years and then for King Soopers for 10 years, retiring in 2008. Joe enjoyed spending his time reading and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved animals, all animals, especially his numerous pets including dogs, cats and birds. Joe was a loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and uncle and he will be dearly missed.

Joe is survived by his seven children, Margo (Bill) Kretzer, of Brighton, Joseph Schiefelbein, of Payson, Ariz., Shelly (David) Sack and Jackie Howell, both of Brighton, JR Howell, of Platteville, Ricky Schiefelbein, of Brighton, and John (Becky) Howell, of Firestone; two brothers, David Schiefelbein, of Akron, and Benedict Schiefelbein, of San Ramon, Calid.; two sisters, Dorothy (Staley) Trefry, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Virginia Wyatt, of Commerce City; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Schiefelbein; two brothers, John and Donald Schiefelbein; and a  son, Todd Jones.

Memorial service was held on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton.

Tabor-Rice Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
