This year’s Trapper Days Parade was presided over by the World’s Strongest Man and Fort Lupton native Brian Shaw, who was honored as grand marshal. Shaw began his strongman career with a win when he entered the Denver Strongest Man Contest in October of 2005. In 2009 he entered Fortissimus, otherwise known as the Strongest Man on Earth competition, in Canada where he came third and was the only man to lift six 300-450 pound Atlas stones. Brian entered numerous other strongman competitions and in 2011 once again participated in the World’s Strongest Man competition. Going into the final event, the Atlas Stones, Shaw was tied with two-time champion Zydrunas Savickas. Shaw beat Savickas taking first place and gaining the title World’s Strongest Man.
This year’s Honored Volunteers for Trapper Days were Ron and Judy Ceretto. Ron has served with the Fort Lupton Fire Department for 26 years and 10 months, serving as chief for many of those years. Judy has been active in the Fort Lupton Senior Advisory Committee and First United Methodist Church in Fort Lupton. The Cerettos have also been active in meals for the Senior Nutrition Program, numerous church mission trips, Weld County Project Connect and the Trapper’s Roll–In fundraisers, which benefit the Community Foundation and the Floyd Acre Scholarship Fund.
The 2012 Honored Business was the South Platte Valley Historical Society. Founded in March 1988, its primary purpose is preserving and maintaining sites, structures and objects of historical significance in the South Platte Valley area, as well as related public education. The society helped establish the Fort Lupton Historical Park, and the Fort at the historical park is presently being reconstructed with two other historic structures to be fully restored and relocated there: the Donelson House and the 1875 Independence School.

The Fort Lupton Chamber of Commerce announced the award winners for this year’s parade.
