Frederick's Keenan D'Arcy opts for lacrosse at Catawba College

FREDERICK — In the case of Frederick lacrosse player Keenan D’Arcy, his choice of college (Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C.) came down to two things.

“The first thing is when I walked on campus. I fit in there really well,” he said. “I visited a lot of other schools I really liked. It came down to money. I don’t think I could have afforded another school, and Catawba made the right financial aid package for me. I felt good with the kids, the coaches. I want to try something different.”

D’Arcy looked at several other schools before making his decision.

“It’s different from Colorado. There are a lot of trees. The school is older than the state of Colorado, so it’s really rustic,” D’Arcy said. “I liked the stadium. There’s mountains nearby that aren’t really mountains. The people are nice. I felt really welcome. I had a good experience walking on campus. It was a good fit.”

D’Arcy wants a degree in either accounting or finance, then pursue a master’s.

“I want to be an accountant or a financial adviser, something along those lines,” he said. “They have a good accountant school. There’s a big grocery store chain called Food Lion. The owner and the CEO went to the school, and they work with the business students. That was a great feature.”

D’Arcy wasn’t quite ready to commit to whether he was ready for the next stop.

“We’ll see when it comes August,” he laughed. “You always say you are, but when that time comes, you don’t know anything different. I wanted to try something new. I didn’t want to stay near. I’m not nervous. I normally am nervous with most things I do. Maybe because it’s something I’ve never done. But hopefully, I can make the transition easy and connect with the school and the team when I get out there.”
