    The city’s committee volunteers won’t have to pay as much to use the Fort Lupton Recreation Center.

                During a regular business meeting June 20, Fort Lupton City Council approved discounts for volunteers by a unanimous vote. Volunteers have to pay half-price to use the rec center, they get 20 percent off a monthly or annual pass to the center (also applies to dependents) and half off green fees at Coyote Creek Golf Course.

                Staff notes said discounts will run concurrently with advisory committee guidelines. The discounts begin Jan. 1 following municipal elections and continue through Dec. 31 following the next regular election.

                Staff said potential loss of revenue from the golf course fund could total $2,000 per year. Loss of revenue from the recreation center fund was not available.

More rec center news

                Council also approved  almost $100,000 worth of site design and construction drawings for the new splash park. The accepted bid from DHM Design was not the lowest. Goodbee & Associates submitted a bit of $66,000.

                “DHM Design was not the lowest bid but was deemed to be the most qualified and complete for this type of project,” staff notes said.

Staff notes said after completion of the park’s master plan, the next step is to send the design and construction plans to bid.

                “When completed, this plan will include all of the documents needed to bid out the splash pad, pumps, playgrounds, walkways, shelters and restroom proposals,” staff notes said.

                The general fund for the parks department’s capital expenditure budget contains $400,000. Groundbreaking is set for June 2023.

‘Other meeting’ clarification

                Council also cleaned up language that pertains to so-called “other meetings” in the city charter.

                The new language lets the mayor consider and, potentially, approve $75 in extra pay for other meetings that the mayor designates. Staff notes said the extra pay parameter used to be “posted” special meetings with other elected bodies, such as the Weld County board of commissioners and the Weld Re-8 School District. Three publicly elected officials would have to be an attendance in order for the extra pay to come into play.

                Conferences and banquets aren’t part of this, and advisory committee and city-appointed board meetings are part of council’s regular base pay. The mayor gets $750 per month; the rest of council gets $500 per month following the last amendment adopted in 2013.
