Fort Lupton City Council unanimously approved a reconciliation of the city's water and wastewater budget during its April 5 meeting.
The so-called "rebateable budget" had $334,000 to cover four line items .. repairs, use of propane, removing and transporting solids and wastes and the chemicals used in the water and wastewater plant.
Jon Mays, the public safety director for the water and wastewater plant, said he overspent the budget by about $27,000.
"We don't add any interest to the money," Mays told council. "It's directly passed through to the city."
Mays was on the virtual call from a darkened room in his house.
"Should we throw a little exctra money your way for some lights?" joked Mayor Zo Stieber.
