The Clear Creek Golddiggers were soaring to new heights and running faster than the wind — or at least it seemed that way — at the May 19-22 state track & field meet at Lakewood's Jeffco Stadium.
Senior Annika McKown placed second in 2A girls high jump. She cleared 5-foot-3 before she was eliminated.
McKown also finished 18th in the 400-meter dash, coach Brian Inman noted.
The girls sprint medley finished 14th in 2A.
Meanwhile, the boys team was having one of its best performances since 2018.
Senior Sean Mauracher tied for 17th in the 100-meter dash. Then, after the May 20 events were canceled because of snow and rescheduled for May 21, the Clear Creek boys 4x200-meter relay team placed fifth in 2A.
On May 22, junior Bode Baker took sixth in the 400-meter dash and the boys 4x100-meter relay got seventh place. Overall, Inman felt this was one of the best performances by the Clear Creek boys over the past decade.
