Buschman gets deferred sentence

GREELEY — A Fort Lupton man drew a two-year deferred sentence and 48 hours of time in community corrections.

Christopher Buschman was arrested in March after a shooting in the 15000 block of U.S. Highway 85. He plead guilty to a charge of possessing a weapon by a previous juvenile offender, a class 5 felony.

Deputies said Buschman was trying to unload his grandfather’s semi-automatic, .22-caliber pistol when it went off. The shot hit 21-year-old Richelle Breedlove, also of Fort Lupton, in the leg. She was treated and released from Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton.

Buschman faced third-degree assault charge and a another count of possession of a weapon by a previous juvenile offender charge. Weld County District Attorney spokesperson Jennifer Finch said a plea agreement threw out one of the weapons possession charge as well as the assault case.
