Bomb threat closes Adams City HS early

COMMERCE CITY -- Students and the staff of Adams City High School are safe after a phoned-in bomb threat closed the campus early Aug. 10.

"We had a bomb threat phoned in," said ACHS assistant principal Jacob Katz. "We sent kids home. Everyone is safe."

The incident began early in the morning.  Students and staff were evacuated to the football field.

The school district sent two letters to parents. The first was the notification of the threat where students and staff were heading after the evacuation.

The second was an explanation of pick-up procedures for those who needed rides home and for those who could walk home. Because of the temperatures and air quality, the district provided water bottles during the incident.

"Rest assured that we at Adams 14 take this very seriously; the safety of your children and our staff is our top priority," Adams 14 Superintendent Paul Sandos told parents in both letters.

School opened Aug. 11 as usual according to the district. Commerce City police continued the investigation.
