  • Colorado 7 League basketball...

    The Colorado 7 League basketball tournament gets rolling Monday, Feb. 11.

    The teams from Fort Lupton and Riverdale Ridge face each other in the opening round. The girls game starts at 6 p.m. at Riverdale Ridge, 13380 Yosemite St. The boys game is at 7 p.m. at Fort Lupton High School.

  • FLHS' Fells punches ticket...

    When Fort Lupton's Hayden Fells blew out his ACL, he wasn't sure he'd come back for his senior football season. 

    He did. Fells even scored a defensive touchdown in his first game back.

    The idea of playing college football may have been a bit in the distance, too, as he rehabbed from his injury. 

    He signed a letter of intent Feb. 6 to play college football at Hastings College.

  • Fort Lupton's Lefforge...

    Fort Lupton's Cyrus Lefforge started his senior year of school on the Bluedevils' football team. This winter, he's the post player on FLHS' basketball team.

    "It helped with conditioning," he said. "Football, you do a lot more running and running in heat. Running in heat and running in a gym are different. It helped."

  • Boys basketball: Frederick...

    Frederick boys basketball coach Enoch Miller loves the improved record of the Warriors this season. FHS split its first 18 starts. A year ago, FHS won once.

    Miller would also like to find some extra players. Frederick was able to hang with Windsor High School for three quarters of their game Jan. 31, but the Wizards prevailed 71-59. WHS doubled the point output of the Warriors in the fourth quarter to pull away.

  • Four FLHS girl wrestlers shine...

     It was a big week for girls wrestling locally and in the state.

  • Wrestling: No placers for Fort...

     LAFAYETTE – The three Fort Lupton wrestlers who advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Top of the Rockies tournament were eliminated from the tournament during consolation matches Jan. 19.

    Jacob Duran, the third-rated wrestler at 126 pounds in class 3A, according to On the Mat Magazine, lost in the quarterfinals and was unable to compete in his first consolation bracket because of an injury.

    LAFAYETTE – Jacob Duran, the third-rated wrestler at 126 pounds in class 3A, according to On the Mat Magazine, moved into the quarterfinals of the Top of the Rockies tournament Jan. 18.

    Duran pinned Centaurus' Thor Christianson in 25 seconds in the opening round. Duran pinned Rocky Ford's Quentin Venard in 3:01 of their second-round match.

  • Rankings? What rankings?

    Two Fort Lupton wrestlers are among the top-rated grapplers in their weight classes, according to Tim Young at On the Mat Magazine.

    Jacob Duran, who won a state title two years ago, is third among 126-pounders. AJ Garcia, who made it to state as a 160-pounder last year, is 12th among 170-pounders.

    They are aware to a degree.

    A very small degree.

  • Wrestling: Fort Morgan beats...

    Fort Morgan beat Fort Lupton 51-26 in a dual meet Jan. 16 on the FLHS mats.

    The Bluedevils picked up on-mat wins from Jacob Duran (126 pounds), Anthony Sailas (113), Desmond Tijerina (106) and AJ Garcia at 170 pounds.
