  • Four FLHS girl wrestlers shine...

     It was a big week for girls wrestling locally and in the state.

  • Wrestling: No placers for Fort...

     LAFAYETTE – The three Fort Lupton wrestlers who advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Top of the Rockies tournament were eliminated from the tournament during consolation matches Jan. 19.

    Jacob Duran, the third-rated wrestler at 126 pounds in class 3A, according to On the Mat Magazine, lost in the quarterfinals and was unable to compete in his first consolation bracket because of an injury.

    LAFAYETTE – Jacob Duran, the third-rated wrestler at 126 pounds in class 3A, according to On the Mat Magazine, moved into the quarterfinals of the Top of the Rockies tournament Jan. 18.

    Duran pinned Centaurus' Thor Christianson in 25 seconds in the opening round. Duran pinned Rocky Ford's Quentin Venard in 3:01 of their second-round match.

    Two Fort Lupton wrestlers are among the top-rated grapplers in their weight classes, according to Tim Young at On the Mat Magazine.

    Jacob Duran, who won a state title two years ago, is third among 126-pounders. AJ Garcia, who made it to state as a 160-pounder last year, is 12th among 170-pounders.

    They are aware to a degree.

    A very small degree.

  • Wrestling: Fort Morgan beats...

    Fort Morgan beat Fort Lupton 51-26 in a dual meet Jan. 16 on the FLHS mats.

    The Bluedevils picked up on-mat wins from Jacob Duran (126 pounds), Anthony Sailas (113), Desmond Tijerina (106) and AJ Garcia at 170 pounds.

  • Tournament time for Frederick...

    Frederick's Victor Rangel won the 152-pound championship at the Warriors Invitational tournament Jan. 12. It helped the Warriors to a third-place team finish.

    Elsewhere, Cole Hoffman (132) was the runner-up in his weight class. Gabe Carillo (120), Logan Rangel (138) and Cody Ayres (126) finished third. Jonah Gardner (106), TR Kindvall (182) and Cole Young (113) were fourth.

    Justis Ornelas was sixth at 170 pounds. 

  • Girls basketball: Fort Lupton...

     Fort Lupton freshman Melia Coleman made the jump from middle-school to high-school basketball this season, and it appears as though the adjustment wasn't too serious after all.

    For one, she's been in the starting lineup all season, which hasn't been an issue.

    "There's a little bit of extra pressure," Coleman said. "But I've played against boys. That helps. My dad is super supportive. The pressure has gone down the more I've played."

    Boys basketball

    Fort Lupton took two of three contests last week.

    THe Bluedevils beat Skyview Academy 57-43 Jan. 14 in Highlands Ranch. Cyrus Lefforge and Eli Mullet had 12 points for the victors. Christian Lopez paced Skyview Academy with a dozen points.

    FLHS beat Liberty Common 72-49 Jan. 15 in Fort Lupton. Lefforge had 22 points to pace Fort Lupton. Mullet added 14. Jameson Wlater had 14 points for Liberty Common.
