  • Archie Suniga takes over as Fort Lupton girls soccer coach

    Archie Suniga is the new coach for the Bluedevils’ girls soccer team. He takes over for Michael Pineda, whose contract was not renewed earlier this spring.

    Suniga will continue as the head coach for the boys program, a position he’s held the past five seasons.

  • Fort Lupton High School wrestling golf tournament fundraiser approaches

    The seventh annual Fort Lupton High School wrestling golf tournament fundraiser starts at 8 a.m. July 28 at Coyote Creek Golf Course, 222 Clubhouse Drive, Fort Lupton.

    It’s a shotgun start and a four-man scramble format. The fee is $85 per player for $340 per team. Organizers are looking for hole sponsors, too. Those run $100, which includes a sign with your company or family name. Proceeds benefit the wrestling program at FLHS.

  • Participants sought for Fort Lupton rec center's girls volleyball league

    The Fort Lupton Recreation Center is looking for girls in third through sixth grades to participate in its fall volleyball league.

    The early bird fee is $55 by July 26. It rises $60 after July 27 and is only $50 if paid by June 22. The end of registration is Aug. 3.

    Games start Sept. 8 will be in the recreation center and surrounding areas Saturday mornings through Oct. 27. Practice (twice a week, days and times vary) begins Aug. 20.

    The coaches’ meeting is at 6 p.m., Aug. 9. Call 303-857-4200 with questions.

  • Registration open for Fort Lupton's fall boys soccer program

    Prekindergarten through second-grade boys can sign up for the city’s fall soccer program through Aug. 3.

    The early bird fee $35 if paid by July 27 (it’s only $30 if paid by June 22). Games start Aug. 21 for prekindergartners and first-graders and Aug. 23 for first- and second-graders. Games are at the park in back of the recreation center.

  • Mudd wins academic award

        PELLA, IOWA – Former Fort Lupton quarterback and defensive back Joel Mudd was a 2010 all-academic choice in the Iowa Conference this season.
    The 5-foot-11-inch, 198-pound defensive back made six tackles (four unassisted) for Central College.


  • Mudd earns academic all-conference

        PELLA, IOWA – Former Fort Lupton quarterback Joel Mudd earned a spot on the Central College academic all-conference team.

        Mudd is a senior majoring in political science and communication studies. His grade point average is 3.535.
        To qualify, students have to be varsity-level athletes, a sophomore in academic standing and earn a 3.5 or better grade point average.

  • Correction

        In the Nov. 24 edition of the Fort Lupton Press, the winner of the alumni basketball game was printed incorrectly. The Blue Team won the first contest between former members of the FLHS teams.

  • Shull takes fifth at college wrestling tournament

        PEMBROKE, N.C. – North Carolina State sophomore Dale Shull finished fifth at 133 pounds in the Pembroke Classic wrestling tournament over the weekend.
        Shull, a sophomore who prepped at Fort Lupton High School, won six of his eight matches in the tournament.


  • Weld Central basketball reunion

    Plans are in the works for alumni of Weld Central High School to participate in a basketball tournament Nov. 12 and 13 and Weld Central Junior High School, 4977 Weld County Road 59, Keenesburg.
