  • Soccer: Fort Lupton hits the road for state 3A playoffs

     Fort Lupton's soccer team is ready to make its first appearance in the state playoffs since 2015.

    The Bluedevils (11-1-3) drew the 18th seed in the tournament and will visit 15th-seeded Strive Peak Smart Academy (11-3-1) in a first-round match in Denver Thursday, Oct. 25. Time and place have not been announced.

    Fort Lupton qualified for the playoffs four straight seasons. The Bluedevils advanced to the second round in 2014.

    Midfielder Hector Lopez was a freshman the last time FLHS made it to state.

  • Cross country: Two Bluedevils make it to state

    LYONS – Two members of the boys cross country team from Fort Lupton High School qualified for the state 3A cross country meet.

    Humberto Guerrero took sixth, and now three-time qualifier Antonio Marquez placed eighth at the regional meet at Lyons High School Oct. 18. Guerrero, a senior, turned in a time of 17:20. Marquez, a junior, finished with a time of 17:28.

  • Softball: Bluedevils season comes to an end

    AURORA – University High School scored five times in the first inning and went on to a 10-2 win over Fort Lupton in the first round of the state 3A softball tournament at Aurora Sports Park.

    No satts were available for either team. FLHS finished the season with a record of 15-10 and its second straight appearance at state. The Bulldogs improved to 20-5 and earned a spot in the quarterfinal round.

  • Soccer: FLHS winding down regular season

    Fort Lupton beat Weld Central 7-2 in Fort Lupton Oct. 16.

    The win pushed the Bluedevils into the 16th spot in the class 3A RPI ratings, the barometer for state tournament qualifiers. The top 16 host the first round of the state playoffs later next week. The playoff draw is due out over the weekend.

    FLHS closes with an Oct. 18 match at D'Evelyn Junior/Senior High School and a match Oct. 19 at Elizabeth High School.

  • FLHS eyeing first-round playoff soccer match

     Fort Lupton's soccer team had one goal this season – a first-round playoff game at home.

    The Bluedevils figure to make the playoffs that begin later next week. If so, it'll be the first time in three seasons that Fort Lupton will play in the postseason.

    As of Sunday, FLHS sits in 17th place in the state's RPI rankings, the mechanism the state uses to select postseason qualifiers. The top 16 host first-round games.

  • Softball: Fort Lupton returns to state tournament

    ARVADA – Fort Lupton's softball team had to win once in a class 3A regional tournament at Lutz Sports Complex Oct. 13, and that's exactly what happened.

    The Bluedevils advanced to the state 3A softball tournament for the second year in a row with an 8-0 win over Cedaredge. No stats were available for either team.

    KERSEY – Even after a 50-0, rain-soaked defeat at the hands of Platte Valley High School, the No. 3-rated team in class 2A, according to the most recent media polls, Fort Lupton coach Dustin Duff was upbeat Oct. 5.

  • Softball: Fort Lupton joins regional tournament field
  • Softball regionals stay on schedule

    AURORA – The state's regional softball tournaments will start as planned at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

    There was a hope that some could be moved to Friday, Oct. 12, because of impending bad weather. But the Colorado High School Activities Association said the tournaments had to stay put because of a combination of poor field conditions from recent rain and drizzle and a lack of officials to work a weekday tournament.

  • Bluedevils take fifth in league cross country meet

    ENGLEWOOD – Two members of Fort Lupton's boys cross country team finished in the top 30 of the Windjammer/Colorado 7 League cross country meet Oct. 6 at Englewood High School.

    Antonio Marquez was 21st in a time of 17:01. Humberto Guerrero took 26th place in a time of 17:07.

    Others to produce points for the Bluedevils were Hunter Gobbo (111th, 18:55), Jayden Hudson (169th, 20:04) and Jose Huerta (204th, 24:00).

    FLHS finished fourth in the team standings.
