  • Benefit auction for Colorado 12 softball team Nov. 14
    The Colorado Stars 12 U competitive girls softball team is hosting a live and silent auction to raise moeny for the 2016 season. It starts at 6 p.m., Nov. 14, at Mulligan Joe’s, 815 Seventh St.,  Fort Lupton.  Cost is $10 per person.
  • Snowball softball Dec. 5
        Fort Lupton’s annual Winterfest Snowball Softball Tournament is set for Dec. 5 at Pearson Park Complex, state Highway 52 and U.S. Highway 85.     Play begins shortly after 8:30 a.m. Slots are avalable for men’s and coed teams.     Each team (15 roster spots per team) is guaranteed two games. Game length is 55 minutes, and each batter’s trip to the plate starts with a 1-1 count.     Team awards will be presented to tournament winners.
  • Faustin Baca
    Faustin Baca, 106, of Brighton, passed away in Fort Collins. He was born Feb. 12, 1909, in Sapillo, N.M., to Thomas and Rosita (Crespin) Baca and attended schools in New Mexico. He married Josephine L’Esperance June 26, 1946, in Las Vegas, N.M.

    PUEBLO – Former Brighton track standout and Fort Lupton native Rachael Lopez earned all-academic honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Lopez, a freshman at Colorado State University-Pueblo, has a 3.66 grade point average. Her major is general sciences.
  • Swim lessons start July 6
    Another two-week session of swimming lessons begins July 6 at the Fort Lupton Recreation Center. Lessons run from 9 a.m. to noon, depending on age and skill level. Fees vary depending on skill level. Registration ends July 2. For more information call 303-857-4200.
  • Pickleball tournament July 4
    The Fort Lupton Recreation Center is hosting a Pickleball tournament July 4 at 203 S. Harrison Ave. Action starts at 8 a.m. and features play for the over-50 crowd in women’s and men’s singles and doubles. The fee is $15 for singles players and $25 per doubles team.   • Olympic soccer in Commerce City Oct. 6-7
    COMMERCE CITY — Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, in Commerce City, will host the finals of the group phase of the 2015 Olympic qualifying championship Oct. 6 and 7. The finals are in Sandy, Utah, Oct. 10 and 13.
  • Former Brighton coach among honorees at state wrestling banquet
    FORT LUPTON — The Colorado chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of fame is to present former Fort Lupton and Brighton high school wrestling coach Tom Cortez with the Dave De Giacomo Award during its honors banquet May 9 in Colorado Springs. De Giacomo started the local chapter of the wrestling hall of fame. He died two years ago.
  • Softball leagues forming
    Registration continues for Fort Lupton’s summer softball leagues. Upper- and lower level men’s leagues start May 11 at Pearson Park. Each team plays 12 games and a single-elimination tournament. The fee (before April 26) is $525. It jumps to $550 by the end of registration, which is May 3. The city also will offer a coed softball league. Its games are Wednesdays, starting May 13, also at Pearson Park. The fee is $525 before April 26 and $550 from then through May 3.
