• Couple charged with child abuse had meth

    A Fort Lupton couple has been charged with child abuse, drug possession, and first-degree criminal trespass in connection with police finding methamphetamine in the trailer home where the couple lived illegally with their four children.

  • Fort Lupton couple faces child abuse charges

    Police arrested three people at a Fort Lupton home, Saturday, June 3, in connection with drug paraphernalia found in the home and alleged child abuse.

    Robert Chavez, 34, his wife Melissa Gallegos, 37, and Anthony Salcido-Andrade, 19, were arrested at the home at 1107 Shortline Drive. Chavez and Gallegos were booked into Weld County Jail, early Sunday, June 4.

    Police also took six children into custody, including the couple’s two children, 11 and 16. No charges have been filed in the case.

  • Trial date set in kidnap case

    Fort Lupton resident Vivian Manning faces trial in August on charges of attempted kidnapping and assault on another woman last fall.

    Manning, 42, Diana Gallegos, 45, and Jessica Gallegos, 23, all were charged in connection with the incident Sept. 7. The three women allegedly went to another woman’s home in Fort Lupton, assaulted her and attempted to take her to another place, according to Officer Doug Perry, a spokesman for the Fort Lupton Police Department.

  • Rodello to undergo competency test

    A Fort Lupton man who allegedly threatened students in October by making a gun shape with his hands is undergoing an outpatient evaluation from the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo.

    A Weld County judge ordered on March 17 that Rupert Rodello, 29, undergo the evaluation to determine whether he can be brought to court and stand trial. Results will be presented to the court on June 2 to determine how the case moves forward, according to court documents.

  • Habitual drunk driver gets jail time

    Albaro Bustillos, 53, of Hudson, was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Thursday, May 4, after a jury found him guilty recently of his eighth DUI.

    Bustillos received his first drunk driving charge in 1994. He has been convicted of similar charges over the past two decades in Westminster, in Commerce City, in Brighton and in Weld County.

  • Fort Lupton man gets 37 years in DUI death

    A Fort Lupton man was sentenced to 37 years in prison Friday, April 7, after one teenager was killed and another was severely injured in a DUI-related accident on Thanksgiving, according to multiple reports.

    Alex Rodriguez, 25, pleaded guilty Feb. 15 to vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and driving without proof of insurance, according to the district attorney's office in Greeley.

  • Former Firestone resident charged with voter fraud

    A former Firestone resident and former state GOP chair was at the Weld County Courthouse on Tuesday, March 21 to hear charges of voter fraud and forgery being brought against him, according to spokesman Tyler Hill.

  • Fort Lupton man arrested in connection with child prostitute

    Police have charged Benjamin Allen Holtry, 32, of Fort Lupton, with patronizing a child prostitute in Brighton.

    Holtry posted an ad on CraigsList, and a resident mentioned it to Brighton police, according to a police statement on Sunday, Feb. 19. Police detectives posed as the stepfather of a fictitious underage female and conversed with Holtry through emails and text messages for several days.

  • Fort Lupton shooting under investigation

    A man is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a Saturday, Feb. 18, shooting near Fort Lupton.

    The victim was shot while he was riding an ATV in the 11000 block of Weld County Road 18, according to Weld County sheriff's deputies. His name was not released. He went to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley to be treated for a shoulder injury.
