FIRESTONE — Sometimes car shows aren’t just for showing off — they’re about giving back.

That’s the case following the July 19 car show hosted by local hot rod club the Alley Rumblerz. The Carbon Valley-based group raised more than $500 in donations and 100 pounds of food to benefit the Carbon Valley Help Center.

As part of the benefit, members from the Help Center were on hand at the vent to help pack donated food items into boxes. A member of the Frederick Youth Advisory Commission was also in attendance to help out with the effort.

“This was a very generous group of fine people who were so pleasant and kind to the Help Center,” said Carbon Valley Help Center President Fred Skates. “It’s wonderful to see local individuals and organizations giving back to our organization in this manner.”

The Carbon Valley Help Center, located at 150 Buchanan Ave. in Firestone, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that helps people in immediate need by bringing together various resources in the Carbon Valley community.

Carbon Valley Help Center is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursday, with appointments recommended. To learn more about the Help Center,  call 303-833-6626, visit www.carbonvalleyhelpcenter.org or email info@carbonvalleyhelpcenter.org.
