Frederick police investigate suspicious package

-A A +A

Frederick police determined a suspicious package left on its station's doorstep in the 300 block of Fifth Street Jan. 31 was not a threat.

A criminal investigation was continuing, though.

It started around 4 p.m. A city statement said a man dressed in black walked up to the front doors of the police station and set down a large backpack, then ran away. Officers searched the area for the man without success.

Authorities closed Fifth Street from Locust to Oak streets. Police also evacuated businesses across the street from the police department. Authorities gave the all-clear shortly before 8:30 p.m.

The Weld County Regional Bomb Squad assisted.

Video of the incident is on the town's Facebook page (facebook.com/TownofFrederick). Call 720-382-5700 if you recognize the man.
