Fort Lupton Middle School cops national honor

-A A +A

DENVER -- The votes are in, and Fort Lupton Middle School is the nation's top middle school according to the National Association of Middle School Principals.

The award was announced during a conference in Denver Feb. 17. Lifetouch School Portraits is the sponsor. FLMS was the only state school to be chosen as a finalist.

According to Weld Re-8 Superintendent Mark Payler, the award recognizes middle schools that respond to unique development needs of their students. The school's assistant principal, Tucker Willard, talked about the academic achievements and outlined the activities and athletic programs when he filled out the applications. Data that documented achievement gains in reading in math during the last five school years was part of the application process, too.

The school documented 27 academic programs and honors, 29 student activities, 10 sports programs and 442 participants among its 441 enrolled students.
