Twombly Elementary School 3rd grade student Ricky Holbrook, shown with his checkered flag after winning his heat at the Colorado Springs Grand National Race, finished third in the main event at the Pikes Peak Quarter Midget racetrack in Ellicott. “My role model is Dale Earnhardt Jr. and I want to be a professional NASCAR driver,” said Holbrook. Twenty-three kids from 5 to 8 years of age competed in Holbrook’s class. He turned in one of the fastest qualifying times of 7.340 seconds, finishing in third place. More than 200 kids from across the country competed.
