  • Johns ties for sixth in state 4A...

    LAKEWOOD -- Fort Lupton's Cicero Johns, who didn't qualify for the state 4A high jump until the last meet of the season, finished tied for sixth Friday afternoon at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood.

     

    Johns, who is a junior, cleared 6 feet 2 inches but could not get over the bar at 6 feet 3 inches. He tied with
    Longmont's Landon Stetson.

        COLORADO SPRINGS — Fort Lupton’s sixth foray into the Colorado class 4A baseball playoffs in as many years was all too brief.

  • Lewis, Sheldon winners of May...

        Cole Lewis and Aleah Sheldon were the male and female winners, respectively, of the May 5, 5K run at the Fort Lupton May Day run/walk at Railroad Park.


        Lewis finished the race in 19 minutes 54 seconds, while Sheldon turned in a time of 24:19.
        Daryl Meyers (34:41) and Brittani Thomas and Richmond Collyn (43:47) were the top finishers in the 5K walk potion of the event.

  • Wrestling

        Fort Lupton wrestlers Jordan LaRoche and Tim Ornelas are among those scheduled to participate in the Colorado High School Coaches Association all-state games in Alamosa next month.
        The wrestling is set to begin at noon, June 9, at Adams State College.
     
     

  • Umpires needed

        The Fort Lupton Recreation Center is looking for youth baseball and softball umpires this summer. Experience required. Call 303-857-4200, ext. 165, by May 25.

     

  • CARA swim team

        Fort Lupton’s Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics recreational/competitive swim team takes to the water again this summer.
        Training and skill development is a three-month program, and swimmers can compete in four meets against other swimmers from around the state.

  • Benefit golf tournament June 8

                The eighth annual city of Fort Lupton/CH2M Hill benefit golf tournament tees off at 7 a.m., June 8, at Coyote Creek Golf Course, 222 Clubhouse Drive.

                Proceeds help out the Fort Lupton Youth Program. Sponsorship levels ranging from $500 (fees for four golfers and tee box advertising) to $80 for individuals are available. Fees include use of a golf cart, lunch, door prizes and donations.

  • Firestone Special Olympics...

    The Firestone Special Olympics softball tournament comes to town June 16.
        The tournament is the season-opener for Special Olympians in Northeast Colorado. It’s a daylong event.
        “The town of Firestone is looking forward to making this an annual event with regional attraction from people to support approximately 350 Special Olympic athletes and 150 coaches in their sporting endeavors,” said communications and outreach coordinator Kristi Ritter.

  • Johns qualifies for state 4A...

    UPDATE: Fort Lupton's Cicero Johns earned a spot in this week's state 4A track and field meet.

    He qualified 11th in the high jump with a best leap of 6 feet 2 inches. The competition begins at 1:30 p.m., Friday, at Jeffco Stadium, U.S. highway 6 and Kipling Street, Lakewood.

    AURORA -- Try as they might, the Bluedevils of Fort Lupton did not wind up with any first-place finishers at this year's Eastern Metro Athletic Conference track meet at a soggy Aurora Public Schools Stadium Friday.

  • Saturday baseball weather...

    AURORA -- The latest weather news from the high school activities association about Saturday baseball isn't much different from Wednesday. The forecast is for rain Friday night and most of Saturday. It's up to the tournament director to decide whether the games can be played as scheduled.

    If Fort Lupton can't play the district tournament Saturday at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs,  then they would play Sunday. If they can't play Sunday, then it's Monday.
