Bo, a Belgian Malinois, was the Frederick Police Department’s first canine.
Officer Andy Fairbanks was Bo’s handler, starting the town’s first Canine (K-9) Unit more than a decade ago. A K-9 unit gives police departments a more broad set of techniques to apprehend suspects and find narcotics, police say. The dogs can help make situations more safe for police and residents, they say.
