KEENESBURG -- Weld County sheriff's deputies said a 16-year-old student was responsible for phoning in a bomb threat at Weld Central High School Friday.

Deputies think the incident is a hoax but were continuing their investigation Friday afternoon. Staff was looking for anything suspicious inside the building.

The call came into the school switchboard shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sgt. Tim Schwartz with the Weld County Sheriff's Office said the caller threatened to blow up the school and hung up.

"School staff decided to close the school for the safety of the students and because of the threat of inclement weather," Schwartz said.

Deputies were able to trace the phone number to the 16-year-old student.
