FORT LUPTON -- Police continue to investigate Monday's drive-by shooting that seriously injured a 20-year-old man.
A medical helicopter took the victim to Denver Health Medical Center. His condition was not known at mid-afternoon. The man was shot several times in his leg and back. Fort Lupton Police Chief Ken Poncelow said the injuries were not life threatening.
The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Fifth Street around 12:15 p.m. Poncelow wasn't ready to talk about a motive or a suspect vehicle. However, Weld County dispatchers aired a description of a gold Audi that was last seen heading southbound out of Fort Lupton.
Twombly Elementary was in lockdown for about an hour and a half, according to Weld Re-8 Superintendent Mark Payler. Not long after, Payler said all schools -- including Twombly -- went into lockout mode. It was canceled around 2 p.m.
