Street tax needs extension

-A A +A
By The Staff

The city of Fort Lupton is leaner than it has been in the past. But at the same time, I think that we are more effective.
The city is about to see the 0.5 of 1 percent street sales tax sun set and go away. These are the funds that the city uses to keep our streets and sidewalks in good repair. We have approximately 11 projects going on at this time that were funded by the street tax, and there will be more projects in the future. With the city losing a lot of the funding sources from the state because of their budget woes, renewing the street sales tax is vital to the residents of Fort Lupton to maintain our streets and infrastructure.
The street sales tax is used for no other purpose than to rebuild or replace the city’s infrastructure. This amounts to 50 cents on a $100 purchase – a small price to pay to beautify the city and attract more business to our town. Without this funding source it would make it impossible to keep up with the streets that are in need of repair.
The residents in the past saw fit to vote yes on the street sales tax for the betterment of the city, and my hope is that the residents will continue to support the street sales tax in the future.
Vote yes on the street sales tax question on the ballot.
