FORT LUPTON -- Saturday's blizzard caused cancellation of some events and a reschedule for some others.
All athletic events were called off for both middle and high school students, and no make-up dates were announced. The Bluedevils' baseball team managed to squeeze in a bit more than four innings of its game at Weld Central before the game was postponed because of lightning. FLHS was leading 7-2 at the time.
The field trip for Upward Bound was postponed to March 16. Saturday's solo ensemble, set for Saturday at Frederick High School, was canceled. Fort Lupton High School's presentation of "Pippin" was rescheduled for 7 p.m., March 10. The high school booster club's fundraiser, the Navajo Taco Dinner, is still on for Sunday night.
The Fort Lupton Recreation Center closed at 3 p.m. Saturday because of the weather. Volleyball games and the monthly teen night at the rec center were called off.
The cause of all this calendar reshuffling is the potential impacts from the biggest snowstorm of the season. A blizzard warning was up for much of the day Saturday. Snow totals could top 10 inches in some places, and winds were expected to gust as high as 40 mph in the afternoon.
At midmorning, the road conditions were far from ideal. I-76 is icy with falling snow between Weld County and Fort Morgan. But no area roads were closed. In fact, CDOT said there was just one road closure in the Denver area because of the storm.
We'll update as necessary during the day.
