FORT MORGAN -- Fort Lupton and Fort Morgan's basketball teams divided their twin bill Friday night.
The Bluedevils won the boys game by a score of 58-45. Three FLHS players -- Zach Boyd, Jalen Vasquez and Brodie Nelson reached double figures. Boyd led the way with 18 points. Nelson had 16, and Vasquez had 15. The Bluedevils had a 12-point lead after one quarter and were never headed.
The girls game went into overtime before the Mustangs prevailed 52-48. FMHS was up by nine points in the third quarter, a quarter in which Fort Lupton couldn't muster a point. But the Bluedevils rallied in the fourth quarter, thanks in large part to Francesca Watson, to force the extra session.
Watson, who finished with a game-high 21 points, scored 10 of her team's last 12 points in the fourth quarter. However, Fort Morgan's Christina Frick and Alexis Bills scored back-to-back baskets in the overtime to give the Mustangs the lead for good. Fort Lupton closed to within three points after a Watson 3-pointer with a minute to go but didn't get any closer.
Fort Lupton also got 20 points from Miranda Kruse. The Mustangs picked up 14 points from Allie Schneider and 12 more from Lauren Staley.
We'll have more on the games in Wednesday's Fort Lupton Press.
