LAKEWOOD -- A 61-year-old Fort Lupton is in the Weld County Jail facing numerous charges after a crash near Fort Lupton this summer.
Dana Beales faces five charges in connection with the crash that killed a Weld County tow-truck driver and injured a state trooper. Beales was booked on suspicion of vehicular homicide, third-degree assault, reckless endangerment, careless driving causing injury and reckless driving.
His first court appearance is at 9 a.m., Nov. 5.
The CSP said Beales was traveling south on U.S. Highway 85 when his Ford truck crashed into a CSP vehicle that was blocking traffic for the tow operator, Martin Braden, of Aurora. The Ford then struck Braden, who died at the scene. The trooper, Scott Rendfrey, sustained what the state patrol called "moderate injuries."
The CSP said Beales was driving at 66 mph as he approached the crash scene, which was on U.S. Highway 85 between Brighton and Fort Lupton.
"The Colorado State Patrol reminds motorists to move over at least one lane when approaching stationary emergency, road maintenance, and tow vehicles with activated emergency lights," a CSP release said. "If motorists cannot move over safely, they must slow down and proceed with due care and caution."
