BRIGHTON — Food Bank of the Rockies has moved its mobile food pantry to a new location for its regular stops in Brighton.
The mobile food pantry is scheduled to come to Brighton on the second Saturday of each month at Old City Hall, 22 S. Fourth Ave., with its next stop scheduled for April 13.
Community Relations Director Janie Gianotsos describes Food Bank of the Rockies as “the grocery store for hunger relief programs.” It’s the organization’s mission to collect and donate food to non-profit agencies that feed those in need throughout Northern Colorado, including Brighton.
Gianotsos said last fiscal year, the mobile food pantry provided about 10,000 pounds of food to Brighton organizations which served an average of 250 families on a monthly basis.
“I’ve been with the food bank for a little over five years and it really increased in 2008 and 2009 and it’s continued to increase but not at quite the rate that it did those years,” she said of the number of those in need of help. “There’s still a lot of people needing help, there’s still a lot of people out there working for less or still looking for jobs — the need has not gone away.”
