Duits takes over chamber of commerce office

-A A +A

A fresh face is in the Fort Lupton Chamber of Commerce office after the hiring of Barbara Duits as executive director for the organization.
Daughter of Weld Re-8 assistant superintendent Carrie Duits, the Metro State student is finding the position to be a good fit for both her schedule and her chosen field of study, event management.

Planning banquets, retreats and monthly luncheons should provide some real-world experience for Duits, who plans to make a career of arranging social or corporate soirees, dependent on the job market when she graduates. In the interim, she looks forward to meeting folks in the community, a new frontier so far.
“Hopefully, I’ll start meeting new people, because I don’t really know anyone because I didn’t grow up here,” Duits said. “So I’m eager to get out and meet people.”
Keeping busy in the interim, Duits is undergoing some on the job training at an accelerated pace.
“It’s been crazy, training and learning everything,” Duits said. “I’m getting more comfortable. And it will get easier once I’m in my routine. But it’s fun.”
Accommodating Duits’ educational progress required a bit of shuffling of office hours. The  schedule is same number of overall hours of open time per week. Monday and Wednesday, the office will be open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.  On Tuesdays, the office will be closed, due to Duits’ class schedule.
Raised in Thornton, Duits lives with her mom in Brighton, where she hopes to close on a house soon for herself and 18-month-old son, Paxton.
“I’m looking forward to working with everyone, and meeting all the new faces,” Duits said. “Stop by and say hello.”
