GREELEY — During the public comment portion of the Dec. 10, 2012, board meeting, three representatives of the Weld County Farm Bureau presented each commissioner with a certificate of appreciation for their service to the agricultural community.
Citing specifically the commissioners’ work on water issues facing Weld County farmers and ranchers in 2012, Weld County Farm Bureau President Dennis Mundt thanked the board for addressing issues critical to the local agricultural community.
“The Weld County Farm Bureau likes to recognize somebody who has done outstanding service during the past year,” Mundt said.
“All of your efforts have been greatly appreciated by Weld County, as well as the Colorado Farm Bureau,” said Bob Winter, District 1 Director for the Colorado Farm Bureau and Weld Farm Bureau member.
“This is greatly appreciated,” said Commissioner Chairman Sean Conway. “I only wish we could have done more. We will continue to work that issue and remain engaged, as you know.”
On June 7, 2012, the County Commissioners attended a community meeting at Fritzler’s Farm in LaSalle and listened to concerns and frustrations from local farmers facing the loss of their crops due to drought conditions.
On June 11, the Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution declaring a disaster emergency in Weld County and asked the Governor to order the pumping of restricted wells. Despite numerous letters, meetings and conference calls, that request was denied on June 19.
