Fort Lupton High School volleyball player Candace Cook received the Colorado Women’s Sports Fund Association 2012 scholarship.
The CWSFA received nearly 100 applications for 26 scholarships. She will be recognized at the Colorado Girl’s and Women’s Sports Fair from 1 to 4 p.m., Feb. 19, at the Aztlan Center in Fort Collins.
Cook is a two-time, first-team all-Eastern Metro Athletic Conference selection. She also received all-conference honorable mention recognition as a sophomore. She lettered all four years in school and was a team captain this season.
Cook was the team leader in kills (177) for one season, most digs in one season (246), most blocks (52) in one season, most kills in a game (25 against Gateway) and most digs n one game (27 against Adams City. She also finished second in the conference in digs, fourth in kills, eighth in hitting percentage and ninth in blocks.
“Candace is a type of player who wants to win and will work hard to achieve success. She never talks back, never negative, and constantly wants to learn. She is extremely coachable and is a team player. She was a Captain for varsity this year and is a leader on and off the court. She has raw talent waiting to be refined,” said Amy Shoemaker, FLHS volleyball coach.
Cook would like to play college volleyball while becoming a medical esthetician or dermatologist.
