FORT LUPTON — Fort Lupton High School senior Kiersten Bushaala recently took first place honors in the Lions Club speech contest.
The theme for this year’s contest was, “How do you think declining academic scores in the U.S. affect our ability to compete globally, and what can be done to improve them?” Under the direction of speech instructor Jarrett Henson, a class of students took the challenge and prepared accordingly.
Among his students, four were chosen to compete for the title at the Lions Club meeting March 17. Bushaala took first place with her presentation and will represent the Fort Lupton Lions at the district convention Saturday, April 19, in Brighton.
Heather Salyar placed second, Christina Jurado was third, with Vanessa Laficoguzzo placing fourth, all of whom prepared and spoke well.
