FORT LUPTON — The city welcomed a new city planner, Alyssa Knutson, last month.
Knutson will work on the city’s planning team, which includes planning technician Mari Peña and Planning Director Todd Hodges.
Knutson’s professional background includes previous planning experience with the city of Glendale, but that wasn’t her first calling.
“I originally was thinking I was going to be a lawyer,” Knutson said. “So I actually started working in a law firm, and I spent the majority of my career as a legal assistant.”
Knutson pursued a career in law before changing her focus to planning.
“I just recently came out of a law firm called Davis Graham & Stubbs in Downtown Denver,” Knutson said. “I was there about six years, maybe a bit longer than that.”
Knutson found that being a lawyer wasn’t meant for her, so she went back to school at the University of Colorado Denver to pursue a career as a planner. She earned a master’s degree in urban and regional planning.
“I just graduated in December, and I started here on January 6,” Knutson said.
Knutson said she chose Fort Lupton because it reminded her of the small town where she grew up in Minnesota.
“It used to be mainly agricultural, and then it quickly started developing,” Knutson said. “So I guess I’m kind of familiar with it, and I understand the agricultural background Fort Lupton has. I’m excited to help Fort Lupton grow smartly.”
