Deepening its commitment to northern Colorado, Halliburton is bringing an additional 500 jobs to Weld County in support of oil and gas fracking operations, the company announced last week. Plans call for a sand storage and distribution center in the Great Western Industrial Park near Windsor.
Slated for construction in the first quarter of 2012, the $20 million, 54-acre sand facility will create some 500 new jobs in the area, according to the Houston oil company. Plans are for the facility to be online as early as the second quarter of this year. Halliburton plans to hire for a variety of positions, including loaders, material coordinators and logistics personnel, said Marisol Espinosa, a spokeswoman for Halliburton.
The Great Western Railway of Colorado will also extend its railroad tracks to complete a four-mile loop for Halliburton operations. The sand storage terminal will be able to facilitate trains of up to 110 cars.
The 1,800-acre Great Western Industrial Park is host to a number of energy companies, bolstering northern Colorado’s position as a major player in new energy production. In addition to the Halliburton operation, the park is home to Vestas Blades of America Inc., Front Range Energy and Hexcel Corp. The Broe Group’s affiliate, the Great Western Development Co., operates the park and associated rail.
